Interview

If after fully completing our online application form, you meet the requirements for our teaching positions in China; a representative from Tiger English or the hiring institute may request speaking to you or interviewing via telephone regarding a job offer.

Interview Tips:
Always try to speak clearly and tone down any strong accents. If the interviewer from China has poor English, don’t panic! Answer the questions slowly and with confidence. Try to put on a smile (if your smiling it can be channelled through the telephone in your voice).

  • Try to do some research on the city or locality of the institute.
  • Have some questions prepared for the interviewer.
  • Teachers often find it difficult to answer questions about teaching experience. This is where you should discuss non-English teaching activities you were involved in that brought you in close working contact with children, teenagers or adults.
  • Discuss any voluntary work, childcare, coaching underage teams, after school homework study groups you helped with, grinds you gave to students or any activity or employment you had that would have helped you gain experience in working with your respective age groups.

Questions you may be asked:

  • How would you describe your personality?
  • Have you worked with children or students before?
  • What attributes do you have that will make you a good English teacher?
  • Have you completed any TEFL training?
  • What do you know about China and Chinese culture?
  • Why do you want to teach English in China?
  • Do you have any teaching experience?
  • What do you think the culture differences are between East and West?
  • Have you been to Asia before?
