Teacher Qualifications
For Private English Academies:
- Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
- Bachelors degree from a recognised University in any discipline
- Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
- Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.
For Public Schools (EPIK):
- Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
- Bachelors degree from a recognised University in any discipline
- Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
- Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.
For Public Schools in Seoul (SMOE):
- Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
- Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
- Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.
and
Applicants must also have at least ONE of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education / English / English Education / English Literature or Linguistics
- Valid teacher certification for either Elementary or Secondary level schools
- TESOL / TEFL or an English Teaching Certificate comprising a minimum of 100 course hours (can be applied for now as long as qualification will be received before arrival in Korea)
- Master's Degree
- Bachelor's degree with at least ONE full year of English teaching experience
