Teacher Qualifications

 

For Private English Academies:

  1. Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
  2. Bachelors degree from a recognised University in any discipline
  3. Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
  4. Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.

For Public Schools (EPIK):

  1. Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
  2. Bachelors degree from a recognised University in any discipline
  3. Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
  4. Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.

For Public Schools in Seoul (SMOE):

  1. Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA
  2. Have a clear criminal background - Any cautioning or convictions will lead to automatic refusal by Korean immigration.
  3. Pass a health and drug test after arrival in Korea.

 

and


Applicants must also have at least ONE of the following qualifications:

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in Education / English / English Education / English Literature or Linguistics
  2. Valid teacher certification for either Elementary or Secondary level schools
  3. TESOL / TEFL or an English Teaching Certificate comprising a minimum of 100 course hours (can be applied for now as long as qualification will be received before arrival in Korea)
  4. Master's Degree
  5. Bachelor's degree with at least ONE full year of English teaching experience
